I-70 Mountain Corridor Context Sensitive Solutions

Welcome to Clear Creek County’s I-70 Corridor Webpage

The future of I-70 is one of the most important issues facing our county.  For years the highway has suffered from nearly debilitating congestion, weather related closures, and traffic disruptions due to geologic challenges.  And the problems seem only to be getting worse.  We feel it as residents who rely upon the corridor for our livelihoods, to help keep us connected with friends and family, and to access our favorite alpine spots.  Businesses who use I-70 to transport goods and services across the state feel it as do tourists from Colorado and elsewhere trying to access our ski resorts and other recreational amenities.

Something must be done – the question is what. There are some who believe that the answer to the problem is to widen the highway to six lanes from Denver through the Eisenhower Tunnels.  The Commissioners of Clear Creek County do not agree.  The solution to I-70 must be one that is in the best long-term interests of everyone in the state, including those of us who live along the corridor and will be most affected by the years of construction.

As your elected representatives, our job is to protect and enhance the quality of life in our County.  That is why we are working hard to advocate transit as the best, long-term answer for all Coloradans.  This is the most cost-effective, efficient, environmentally responsible solution – one that will benefit not just those of us living in Colorado today, but our children and their children.

Please browse this page to learn more about the issue, the problems with highway widening and the benefits of transit.  We welcome hearing from you and look forward to receiving your thoughts and ideas.

 Sincerely,

Commissioners Joan Drury, Harry Dale, and Kevin O’Malley
