Why is the County looking into Broadband?
Clear Creek County is urging residents to test (test your Internet speed here Why is the County looking into Broadband? Why is the County looking into Broadband?) and share their Internet speeds, broadband access, service options, pricing, and more within the County in an effort to get county residents better Internet access–no matter where they live. You can take the County's survey and the State's survey by clicking the logos below.
It's obvious that Clear Creek County is not only spread out, but also has rocky terrain that can make it difficult for people to get the type of Internet access they deserve and need. Pricing can also be a huge barrier to getting Internet access in the area.
That's why Clear Creek County is currently working with, Gilpin County, Nederland, Neoconnect, Maverix Broadband, and the State of Colorado’s Broadband Office (CBO) to connect as many people to the Internet as possible.
FCC Broadband Map
Clear Creek County is also working to create a more accurate Broadband Map by challenging the FCC's Broadband map. This map shows where Internet service is (and is not) available across the country. More information can be found here FCC Broadband Map FCC Broadband Map. You can also watch a video on how to challenge the map's results below.
This broadband map, along with other data, will help to determine Colorado’s share of a $42.45 billion broadband investment from the federal Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program. Input from residents will improve the accuracy of the map and result in more federal and state broadband funding targeted to the areas of Colorado that need it most.
What is Broadband? How is that different than Internet access?
Broadband enables people to access to basic amenities such as education, health care, public safety and government services. As the technology supporting broadband connectivity continues to grow, so do the benefits of getting connected. Broadband is a type of technology that provides a high-speed connection to the internet, allowing people to access that information.
Here in Clear Creek County, we believe that everyone deserves to have reliable access to the Internet. The Internet is a global network of computers and devices that contain all the websites and online information that people access daily.
